Annual Report 2021

Introduction

The 2021 Annual Report captures SEND GHANA’s resilience and adaptability amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite significant disruptions to livelihoods and essential services, the organization remained steadfast in advancing good governance, gender equality, and social justice. With 14 projects implemented across 64 districts, SEND GHANA focused on improving health, education, agriculture, and water access while strengthening civic participation and accountability.

Key Highlights

Health & Social Protection

  • Empowered 200+ Community Health Management Committees (CHMCs) to lead local health advocacy and infrastructure development.
  • Trained over 20 CSOs in health financing advocacy, leading to district-level funding releases for malaria and HIV interventions.
  • Advocated for and influenced immunization budgets across 7 MMDAs, contributing to new CHPS compounds and increased vaccine acceptance in Zongo communities.
  • Advanced epidemic preparedness advocacy, influencing budgetary allocations and national discourse.

Agriculture & Food Security

  • Implemented the 4R Nutrient Stewardship Program, training 12,868 farmers (69% women), distributing inputs and farm tools, and boosting cooperative sustainability.
  • Strengthened farmer cooperatives and marketing linkages through the AGREE Project, leading to policy engagement and improved agriculture service delivery.
  • Promoted gender-responsive budgeting and climate change adaptation financing across 36 MMDAs.
  • Through the Cocoa Advocacy Project, sensitized over 12,000 farmers and empowered CSOs to influence cocoa sector policy on pricing and sustainability.

Education & Youth Empowerment

  • Launched the Monitoring for Financial Savings (M4FS) initiative enabling citizen tracking of infrastructure projects in Northern Ghana.
  • Trained CSOs and media on budget tracking and analysis for reducing educational inequality.
  • Advocated for youth empowerment through increased public spending on pro-poor education services.

Governance & Public Financial Management

  • Promoted audit accountability by monitoring Ghana’s School Feeding Programme and encouraging transparency in contract awards.
  • Published a Social Accountability Report on COVID-19 responses, leading to national dialogues and policy recommendations adopted by ministries and government agencies.
  • Partnered with media and CSOs to expose inequalities and demand accountability in pandemic-related public spending.

Gender Equality & Women’s Empowerment

  • Trained over 1,700 Gender Model Families (GMFs) across 10 districts to foster equitable household roles and economic participation.
  • Empowered 8,000+ women in Rural Commercial Women Groups (RCWGs) with leadership, financial literacy, and access to credit.
  • Engaged men and boys in gender equity through peer-to-peer mentoring and positive masculinities campaigns.
