Introduction

The 2020 Annual Report underscores SEND GHANA’s resilience and innovation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite disruptions, the organization advanced its mission of equity through health, education, agriculture, governance, and social protection programs across 64 districts. SEND GHANA supported communities with accurate COVID-19 information, essential relief supplies, and continued advocacy efforts to hold duty bearers accountable and improve livelihoods.

Key Highlights

Health & Social Protection

  • Launched an online citizen journalism platform to share COVID-19 responses and demand accountability.
  • Promoted equitable health access by advocating for National Health Insurance registration of vulnerable groups.
  • Engaged CSOs and citizens to track health budgets and social protection services.
  • Distributed PPE and relief items through a CSO COVID-19 Response Fund benefiting over 1,400 vulnerable people.

Agriculture & Food Security

  • Trained farmers on the 4R Nutrient Stewardship Program, leading to increased yields and financial independence.
  • Supported the formation of 254 Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) and farmer cooperatives.
  • Monitored the Fertilizer Subsidy Program and combated input smuggling through citizen watchdog groups.
  • Advocated for improved farmer access to inputs and land, especially for women.

Education & Youth Empowerment

  • Advocated for progressive public spending in basic education.
  • Held regional and national dialogues to address inequality and improve education quality.
  • Investigated procurement processes under the Ghana School Feeding Program to enhance transparency.

Governance & Public Financial Management

  • Strengthened citizen-government dialogue to improve accountability and service delivery.
  • Developed policy briefs and engaged local and national stakeholders on budget transparency and SDG tracking.
  • Monitored and reported on COVID-19 response measures to ensure inclusive planning.

Gender Equality & Women’s Empowerment

  • Promoted women’s leadership in cocoa and agriculture cooperatives.
  • Trained women on gender-responsive budgeting and supported women’s participation in peace and election processes.
  • Enabled women’s access to farmland and resources under the PFJ program.
