Introduction

The Annual Report 2014 captures SEND GHANA’s efforts to expand equity and accountability in a challenging socio-economic context. Despite national setbacks such as power crises and inflation, SEND GHANA implemented impactful grassroots initiatives across 65 districts in six regions. Over 40,000 individuals, 60% of whom were women, benefited directly from interventions spanning health, agriculture, governance, and financial inclusion.

Key Highlights

  1. Health & Social Protection – Mobilized 807 stakeholders to improve maternal healthcare; implemented emergency transport systems and infrastructure upgrades through community action; reached over 23,000 individuals with maternal health education via community radio.
  2. Agriculture & Food Security – Strengthened smallholder farmers’ resilience with training in crop diversification, gender-inclusive cooperatives, and climate-smart agriculture; supported women in aflatoxin control and improved grain storage through advocacy and extension support.
  3. Education & Youth Empowerment – Trained youth and artisans in reproductive health and self-employment skills; empowered adolescents through peer-based communication and awareness on HIV/AIDS and sexual health.
  4. Governance & Public Financial Management – Enabled Persons with Disabilities to access the DACF in 16 districts; promoted budget accountability through Audit Report Implementation Committees and community-led financial transparency measures.
  5. Gender Equality & Women’s Empowerment – Championed gender-sensitive cooperative development, revitalized women’s commercial associations, and empowered women entrepreneurs through microfinance and leadership training.
