Purpose
  1. To raise awareness among women led CSOs’ and groups’ about  the need to for the understanding of NGGA and its third component culminating the formation of networks and district and regional level platforms
  2. To increase women CSO/groups understanding of NGGA in other to get their active participation

To rationalize women groups into clusters of district civil society groups/networks

Output
  1. 87 participants drawn from various women groups, WIAD officers and traditional authority were sensitized on NGGA and what the projects seeks to achieve.
  2. Participants were also educated on the various opportunities available for women under WIAD
  • Training on Gender mainstream
  • Collaboration with Mother to Mother support groups
  • Periodic training for women volunteers on Agriculture extension
  • Education on food hygiene and safety

Participants were put in groups to discuss on the following questions;

  1. How should the women platform be formed at the district and regional level?
  2. What is the pressing advocacy issues facing women in Agriculture?
  3. What can the women platform do to address some of these issues?

RESPONSE

Question 1

  • Encourage women to form cooperatives and smaller groups
  • Identification and registration of viable women groups at the district level.
  • District level platforms come together to form a regional platform
  • Sensitization and education on the need to come together to form groups and platforms

Question 2.

  • Illiteracy
  • Poverty
  • Challenges in land acquisition
  • Inadequate credit, tractor services and farm inputs
  • Inadequate Agriculture Extension services
  • Lack of timely information on Agriculture

Question 3

  • Education and women empowerment
  • Policy for women ownership of property (esp. land)
  • Engage Traditional Authorities and landlords and sensitize them on the need to release land to women
  • Groups to team up and liaise with MoFA, NGOs and CSOs for financial credit and easy accessibility to tractor services and farm inputs
  • Gender mainstreaming

Engage DA to provide basic social amenities in communities.
