Promoting Food Security & Agric Governance

BRIEF

The GROW project works towards promoting food security and agriculture governance in Ghana, the initiative engages both the demand(small-holder farmers, gender officers, farmers-based organizations, social welfare officers and planning officers) and supply side actors(insurance companies, agriculture extension officer, to address some gaps identified in the agricultural sector by increasing knowledge and building capacities on the national/subnational budget–gender responsive budgeting, Gender and Land Rights in Ghana, CAADP–Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme and Climate change/weather insurance/ financing.

OBJECTIVES

To increase the participation of small-holder farmers and citizens groups in budget planning and implementation processes
To promote mainstreaming of CAADP commitments in the work of agriculture policies.
To raise awareness on the need for government and other stakeholders to prioritize investment in the agriculture sector and to develop strategies and policies to mitigate the potential negative impacts from the IMF bailout.

SUCCESSES

The project has contributed to increased capacityies of 62 gender desk officers in 30 MMDAs and farmers-based organizations on Gender Responsive Budgeting to ensure proper/ effective integrateion of gender principles in their activities/ budgets and critically analyse national/ district budgets, medium term plans of their assemblies.
The project has contributed to increased awareness and knowledge of 164 smallholder rice and livestock farmers on climate change and agriculture insurance in Shai Osudoku and Ada.
