{"id":2625,"date":"2020-04-06T17:16:35","date_gmt":"2020-04-06T17:16:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sendwestafrica.org\/nu\/?p=2625"},"modified":"2020-04-06T17:16:35","modified_gmt":"2020-04-06T17:16:35","slug":"covid-19-gtpcwu-urges-members-to-adhere-to-lockdown-directive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sendwestafrica.org\/ghana\/covid-19-gtpcwu-urges-members-to-adhere-to-lockdown-directive\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19: GTPCWU urges members to adhere to lockdown directive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Source: https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/ | 30 March 2020<\/p>\n<p>The General Transport Petroleum and Chemical Workers Union (GTPCWU) has urged its members to adhere strictly to the directives of the President in other to help curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/2020\/03\/akufo-addo-announces-partial-lockdown-of-accra-kumasi-tema-full-speech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">President Nana Addo<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;during his fourth address to the nation on Friday, March 27, 2020, called on all commercial vehicles to reduce the number of passengers in order to observe appropriate social distancing and hygiene protocols.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRiders of motorbikes are not allowed to carry any additional person, and all intra-city passenger vehicles, such as trotros and taxis, must reduce the number of passengers in order to observe appropriate social distancing and hygiene protocols,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The union said it will work with the authorities to ensure the safety and welfare of its members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the light of the above, GTPCWU closely monitoring the unfolding situation in the country and the world at large, will work with the authorities to protect the safety and the welfare of the union\u2019s membership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Union further plead with the government to provide the workers with the needed equipment and logistics to facilitate their work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, GTPCWU would like to plead with the government to continue to provide the workers with the necessary Personal Protect Equipment (PPE\u2019s) and other logistics to facilitate their work and to prevent the spread of their ranks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>the Union also called for the government\u2019s subsidy to aid the transport sector in this time of crisis and also revive the dwindled \u2018Ayalolo\u2019 buses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile waiting for the government\u2019s subsidy to aid the transport sector in this time of the crisis, we are also urging the government to focus and revive te dwindled \u2018Ayalolo\u2019 buses which were supposed to operate BRT system in Ghana.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Union further urged its members all its members across the country to observe the two weeks partial lockdown as announced by the President.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMeanwhile, GTPCWU is using this opportunity to encourage all our members across the country to observe the two weeks partial lockdown as announced by the President and continue to be law-abiding whiles remaining calm at this period of our existence and livelihood\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/GTPCWU-Press-Statement-29-March-2020.pdf\"><strong>Click here for the full press release<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/ | 30 March 2020 The General Transport Petroleum and Chemical Workers Union (GTPCWU) has urged its members to adhere strictly to the directives of the President in other to help curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
